Omega Communications dial-up customers get 5MB of free personal web space to create a site to express themselves! This personal site cannot be used for anything commercial (selling of a product).

To connect to your personal web space, you must use FTP to connect (we're sorry, Front Page Extensions are not supported on personal web space). You will need the following information to connect to your personal web space: host address, username, and password. The username and password you would use for FTP are the same as your dial-in username and password. The host address varies depending on which service you are a part of. These are listed below:

Megahits Customers I-Plus Customers MaxinterNet Customers
personal.megahits.com home.i-plus.net personal.maxinter.net

Picusnet Customers Sybercom Customers Livenet Customers
personal.picusnet.com personal.sybercom.net personal.megahits.com

Access FTP through Internet Explorer | Access Through WS FTP

Internet Explorer Access
You can access your web space in Internet Explorer like you would the files on your computer through Windows Explorer. To do so, type in the FTP address into Internet Explorer as shown below (ftp://hostaddress):

The host address above will change depending on what service you have with Omega Communications. Substitute your host address in the Address Bar as shown above (ex. ftp://home.i-plus.net).

Once you enter the address into Internet Explorer, hit the Enter button on your keyboard, your click on the Go button on Internet Explorer. At this point, you will be shown a log-on screen asking for a username and password as shown below:

Click log-in, and you will then see a screen that looks like the screen when you are browsing your folders on your computer (like My Documents). From here you can drag and drop your files from your computer, onto Internet Explorer and they will then automatically upload to your web space.

WS FTP Access
Uploading web page files can often be confusing. A FTP client can make this process a lot less painful. In just a few clicks, you can get your HTML and picture files up on the web.

Download WS FTP LE (32 bit) for Windows 9x/NT - (free download)

  • The first step is to get your host address (as shown above).
  • The next thing you will need is your username and password (as shown above).
  • To transfer a file that contains text (.html*, .txt):

    1. Click once on a file to select it. (If you plan to transfer multiple files, hold down the "control" key and click once on each file you wish to select.)

    2. Click on the ASCII radio button.

    3. Click once on the "->" arrow positioned between the Local System and Remote Site windows to initiate the transfer of files from your computer to the Remote Site. *Images are not included in HTML files, they must be transferred separately.

To view your personal web page, you would use the following syntax:

    http://personal.megahits.com/username/page name

Please note, that if the first page of your site is named "index.htm" then you do not have to type it in when trying to access the site because it is called by default. For example, if you have a page named index.htm in your personal web space, all you have to type is http://personal.megahits.com/username because it calls the index page automatically.

If you have any questions about how to use FTP, or otherwise, please contact the customer care office by calling 1-800-290-0461.
